First off an umbrella stroller is a movable buggy for children. The moniker comes from the shape of the handles on the stroller not that it has an umbrella attached, although sometimes it does have an umbrella attached it is not a requirement. These lightweight tour strollers fold in half length wise and have two handles that look like an umbrella handle.
These movable strollers were a god send when they first appeared in the early eighties. The big baby prams from the forties and fifties were largely substituted by folding prams in the sixties both even these smaller more movable baby buggies were still monstrous in size and made communal communication an absolute nightmare. Even folded there was no way for a parent to tote baby, baby bag and stroller.
The rejoinder to this was the lightweight easy to fold umbrella stroller. The handles can be hung from one are much like an umbrella and they are so light weight that it is not a struggle to do so.
